Freshers Week Survival Guide

August 6th, 2009

Registration

registration

Registration usually happens in Freshers Week, It’s usually fairly straightforward so don’t worry too much …

After you’ve got into the registration building itself, you’ll be split into lots of smaller (but still big) lines, usually based on how far along your finance/application has gotten so far.

Registration is basically finalise your university place and confirming your student loan payments, and to possibly pick up your Union membership card. Once you’re all done, the Student Loans Company will be notified by your Uni and authorise your first payment to be made into your bank account (usually the week after). So any delays in registration can lead to delays in your first loan payment. During freshers week the Unis update the SLC on a daily basis with lists of registered students, so that payments can be processed quickly. If there’s any problem with your forms don’t panic, delays are only usually a problem if you fail to register after the freshers period…

Make sure you have whatever documents you’ve been told to bring, usually it’s identification, passport photos, any university letters sent about your offer or place, and your student loan/support documents, if in doubt just bring everything you’ve been sent and you should be fine …

A quick tip here – Most unis allocate you a time slot during the day to register which is based on your surname. If you want to skip the ques, just go at 9am or early in the morning if your hangover isn’t too bad, and make an excuse that you can’t make the time slot they allocated …
